vintage salvation

Suze & I did some coat modeling for Nikole (owner of Vintage Salvation). Even though it takes me a bit to come out of my shell and really get my "model" on, I had a lot of fun! Hopefully the shots turn out well and she sells a lot of beautiful, great stuff :)

packing for vacation: part 1

I'm leaving for my 10 day trip to South Carolina on Friday after work, so naturally I started to pack today. I'm driving down with my family, but on the way back I'm flying, so I need to fit everything into a nice carry-on sized suitcase. I'm a textbook overpacker, what if i want to wear that shirt? what if we go hiking? if i wear those shorts i might want to wear this tank top and those ankle boots. what if we go to a ball and i need a fancy dress? what if i suddenly get the urge to go running? so starting today allows me 4 days to think about my outfits and edit it down to (what I think is) a reasonable amount of clothing and shoes.

Nikko top: Alternative Apparel | 'It's High Time' high-waisted shorts: Modcloth | Navy tennis shoes: Target.

And since I forgot to take a picture of the back of the shirt during the brick wall "photo shoot", here it is. I like that the slit only goes halfway up, that way you can still wear a regular bra!

oh you nasty boys

This week it finally warmed up, so it gave me the chance to start wearing my summer clothes! I bought this Nasty Gal dress back in January, eagerly awaiting the moment when I would finally be able to take it out of my closet. I've also acquired the help of my photographer friend/coworker. She has been nice enough to do little impromptu "photoshoots" with me after work. I'm still not up to DSLR status yet, but maybe someday.

accidental industry fashion show summer 2013

A few weeks ago some friends and I attended the Accidental Industry Fashion Show, which took place at the Fleming building in downtown Des Moines. The AIFS is a semi-annual event created by some talented ladies, two of which are Lacy Brunnette and Lucy Shay. During the previous 2 shows I interned backstage, leading the other interns behind the scenes. It was a great learning experience to get to be backstage. I realized how quickly the show goes, and how hectic it is with models running in and out, helping them dress and undress, making sure they're wearing the right items and that they're styled correctly, etc.etc. I saw a lot of boobs and butts during those 2 shows, but it didn't matter, because that's the name of the game. This year I decided not to work it, though. I wanted to be able to sit in the front row and watch the magic happen. It was a great time and I can't wait until the next show!

oh, hello

It's been a month since I last posted. Oops! February was kind of a whirlwind. I went to MAGIC Market Week in Las Vegas and also turned 27, but more on that later. I wanted to post some of the unused pictures from the Savior shoot I did. Photography by JeTim Art & Photography .

savior

As I mentioned before, I was fortunate enough to be a part of a new magazine, started by my friend Lucy Shay. Last Saturday was the launch party, and it turned out amazing (both the party and the magazine)! So many stylish Des Moinians (Des Moinians? Des Moinites?) came out to support this new venture, and Lucy was right when she said that just because we're in Des Moines, Iowa doesn't mean we can't start/be a part of something cool and fashionable! Savior will soon be available to purchase at Domestica, so if you weren't able to make it to the party be sure to pick up a copy! Here are a few pictures of the spread I was in (shot by the wonderful Jen and Tim Mitchard, of JeTim Art & Photography), as well as a few other pictures from the party.

Dress: Nasty Gal. Necklace: Forever 21. Strapless lace bra: Gap Body.
Post-launch party party, downtown DSM. Photos taken by Amy (the blonde girl on the right).

I would just like to end this post by thanking Lucy for letting me be a part of her baby, Jen & Tim (and Lucy) for believing in my ability to model, and my entourage of friends from near and far that came out to party and support me that night!
